Mats Johnsson is Senior Advisor at the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research. His main responsibilities are on general strategy and analysis, international collaborations, Arctic affairs as well as policies for natural sciences, engineering and research infrastructure. In international affairs he is responsible for India, the Americas and bilateral agreements with countries in Europe.
After receiving a degree in chemistry, biology and mathematics followed by a PhD in inorganic chemistry at University of Lund 1986 he took up a research career in physical chemistry at University of New York at Buffalo. He then served as research instructor at School of Oral Biology and Biomaterials at State University of New York.
Following this he has been at The Swedish Research Council for natural sciences and at private research foundations. Since 2000 he has been at the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research in different functions. Presently he is working with government policies and long-term planning in research.
