Mr. Lukáš Levák joined the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic in 2009 after completing his studies at the Charles University. Before he was appointed Director of Department for R&D (2014) he had been in charge of development of bilateral cooperation of the Czech Republic in R&D and participation of the Czech Republic in the Joint Technology Initiatives ARTEMIS and ENIAC implemented within the 7th EU Framework Programme. His current duties and responsibilities comprise in particular the formulation and implementation of the strategy for cross-border and international cooperation of the Czech Republic in R&D within the European Research Area and defining the research infrastructures policy of the Czech Republic.
In 2015, he was the main co-author of the “Roadmap of the Czech Republic of Large Infrastructures for Research, Experimental Development and Innovation for the years 2016-2022”. In 2016, he was the main coordinator of preparation and co-author of the “ERA Roadmap of the Czech Republic for the years 2016-2020”. Since 2014 he is the leading delegate of the Czech Republic to ERAC platform (European Research Area and Innovation Committee). His present tasks consist in further alignment of the Czech research infrastructures policy with the ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) good practice examples and in updating the Czech national research infrastructures roadmap (to be accomplished in 2018).
Regarding further integration of the Czech research and innovation system into the European Research Area, major challenges of Department for R&D comprise strengthening participation of the Czech Republic in Joint Programming process. As for the Czech national R&D policy, in 2018 Department for R&D prepared an overarching national strategy of the Czech Republic for development of human resources and gender equality in R&D.
