Dr. Caterina Biscari
Born in Italy, 1957. Licenciatura en Ciencias Fìsicas in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Degree in Physics summa cum laude at the Università degli Studi di Napoli. She is an experimental physicist recognized for significant contributions to the design, construction and operation of particle accelerators.
Since 2012 Director of Alba-CELLS, the 3rd Generation Synchrotron Radiation Facility at Barcelona, Spain, nowadays operating 8 beamlines, while expanding the instrumental offer with the construction of new ones, four of them to be open to users in the next four years. Vice Chair of LEAPS, the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources.
Postdoc at CERN from 1982 to 1985, then at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati of INFN from 1985 to 2012. She has participated with key contributions to different projects as the electron-positron collider DAFNE at LNF, the Future Linear Collider Test Facility CTF3 at CERN, the hadron-therapy facility CNAO at Pavia.
Author of about 150 publications on refereed journals, conference and workshop proceedings, conceptual and technical design reports.
She has been chair of the European Physical Society Accelerator Group, of the Particle Accelerator Conference Coordination Committee, member of the EPS Executive Committee, member of several international advisory committees, among which CERN Scientific Policy Committee, PSI Advisory Board, XFEL-Machine Advisory Committee, HZB Scientific Advisory Committee. She is presently Associate Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.
She is Fellow of the European Physical Society since 2009, and has been awarded in 2013 by the President of the Italian Republic with the honor of Ufficiale dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia..
